Finding Peace in Your Own Home: Embracing the Concept of a Home Oasis

Creating a home oasis is an important concept for our homes. I first realized this during my second honeymoon in Hawaii for our 10th anniversary. The experience was so magical and memorable that I wanted to embrace the idea of creating a home oasis. Even my husband, Michel, commented on how we were acting like it was our first honeymoon.

I realized that the key to creating a home oasis is the idea of "letting go." Stay with me here. Letting go of expectations I had for myself, letting go of worrying about my children (knowing they were in great hands with Granny, Doggie, and even the older kiddos taking care of themselves and the dogs), and letting go of how Michel and I should act or be on our honeymoon. We were just present, and even better than that, we were hearing each other.

Hearing is more than just listening. My children and husband listen to me every day, but only half of what I say is remembered. Hearing is taking it all in, acknowledging it, and processing it. That's what I am currently doing as I write this blog - hearing the ocean waves crashing up against the beach shore, hearing my Christian rock music in my left ear, and taking in this peaceful, beautiful morning. The sun is not up yet, and it's still quiet.

I have decided to bring some of these experiences home to create and embrace my own home oasis.

1.     Tranquil Wave Sound

Yes, living in Minnesota (MN) I don’t have any waves crashing into the shore.  So my husband gave me a wonderful idea of going on the Calm app he has and searching for ocean waves.

2.    Time To Myself Before The Chaos

Yes, I found this so rewarding.  I know it sounds crazy but due to the time difference (5 hrs. behind MN), I enjoyed my mornings to myself.  It took me about 3 days to adjust and while my husband slept in, I worked on me… I worked out, did some writing, (yes old-fashioned pen and paper), and listened to inspirational music.  I didn’t realize how much I needed this until I did it for a week and now cannot stop.

3.     Spending Quality Time with My Husband

Yes, this is more than asking “How was your day” and getting the typical everyday response.  This is asking my husband, and he is asking me what my goals are for the next year, five years from now where I see myself.  Setting up dreams and starting to manifest them and making them into a reality.  Let’s face it, the person I married is not the same as 10 years ago nor am I.  We both have changed mentally, spiritually, and physically.

What does all of this mean for you? It means that incorporating what you already have and bringing an oasis into your home is easy. If you don't know where to start or how to do it, don't worry. I'm just a phone call or an email away, ready to help.
