Affordable Hood Liners approved for your Home Kitchen Remodel by MN Designer

My husband asked me the other day “What’s a Hood Liner?  I see you have a class about it.” Yes, as a woman-owned small business and having elementary children we share calendars.  My calendar is full of business & personal items.  When he asked that I was speechless.  I thought everyone knew about hood liners.  I started telling him about it but then stopped mid-sentence.  “I told him thank-you for inspiring me for my next blog.”  So, let’s get down and dirty about hood liners 😍.

My training class was at Shady Oak Distributing.  They are a 3rd generation distributing facility that partners with high-end residential kitchen appliance brands.  Shady Oak Distributing “supply and support local dealers who, in turn, sell products to the general public.”  This class was sponsored by the Warners’ Stellian Edina Store which is where I purchased my Bosch Dishwasher.  The class was Ventilation 101 Training specifically talking about Vent-A-Hood.

Vent-A-Hood was founded in 1933 and its 4th generation is running the show.  They “only make range hoods” and “are ventilation experts.”  That quote states it all.  They do things differently and think outside the box.  How do you ask?  They are the only ones with a wide-open area to collect the cooking contaminants (heat, steam, grease, smoke, odors).  There are no mesh screens or baffles in the way.

I am getting ahead of myself.  You need to consider holding capacity, overlap, projection, and mounting height when choosing a hood.  Yes, that is a lot to take in when considering a hood liner but remember the purpose of any kitchen ventilation (hood) is to completely remove the cooking contaminants of heat, odor, hazardous gases, grease, steam, smoke (HOGGSS).  When you are cooking you probably smell some cooking odors in the home.  How about the next day?  Is it still lingering in the air?  If so, your ventilation is not working as well as it should.  You are probably thinking it’s fine.  My indoor air quality is great.  Really…. Where are the cooking contaminants going if not through your kitchen ventilation system.  They will float freely about the home and sticky grease will settle on surfaces, making them difficult to clean.  Grease will also settle onto window treatments, furniture, and carpeting.  This has happened to me.  When cooking hamburgers, we need to cook them outside on the grille anytime of the year.  The grease smell stays in my home for up to 2 days due to my mesh filter for the over-the range microwave hood.  It doesn’t matter how many times I clean that mesh filter (I do it weekly), it just does not do the job right.

I have said it before & I will say it again.  I am not a fan of the microwave hood.  It’s trying to be a microwave & a kitchen ventilation system.  It just doesn’t work.  For me, someone who is short, I do not like taking hot items out of the microwave for I am afraid I will spill on myself.  Also, it does not provide independence for my children on using the microwave because it’s located above the electric range.  I know what you are thinking… You cannot vent to the outside because you live in an apartment or condominium.  OK we’ve got you covered.  Did you know Vent-A-Hood also makes Air Recovery System (ARS), which is ideal where venting is not possible.  It’s powerful, quiet, and because they’re duct-free, they offer unlimited design freedom.  Please don’t take my word for it.  Just look at the picture below illustrating the competitor vs Vent-A-Hood.

Besides the ARS, which is for wall mount hoods, there are other mounting options available too.  You have an under-cabinet, other wall mount options, island, and insert.  The other thing to take into consideration is the cooking element.  Will it be above an electric range/cook-top, a gas range/cook-top, or a professional element?  The cooking element + the hood ventilation equals the mounting height.  Again, this height is recommended for your ventilation to work properly and for warranty.

This blog has tons of information on to how to choose the proper ventilation for your next kitchen remodel.  The reason I speak so highly on Vent-A-Hood is because they are the best at what they do.  “They know range hoods and are your ventilation experts.”  They have been doing this for 90 years, since 1933.  They are the leaders in their industry.

I am hoping this provides you an insight on why ventilation is so important for your home.  If you are still overwhelmed with your kitchen project, let’s collaborate on a Discovery Call.  I would love to learn more and ease your stress.
