Birthday Reflections: Why Mexico Taught Me to Love Life More

As I celebrated my birthday in Mexico with my family, I found myself reflecting on the simple lessons that often make the biggest impact.

Between the sunshine, beach days, family time, and unexpected moments of connection, I came home with a few reminders worth sharing.

1. Kindness Goes a Long Way

One of my favorite memories came from being willing to try something new.

The chef at our resort was testing a few dishes that weren't yet on the menu, and I happily volunteered to be one of his taste testers.  What started as a simple conversation turned into an opportunity to meet and take a photo with the Chef himself.

It was a reminder that kindness, curiosity, and being open to new experiences can create some of life's best moments.  Whether in business, travel, or everyday life, people remember how you make them feel.

2. We Packed Too Much

Even though we intentionally packed light, we still packed too much.

The reality?  Most days we were in swimsuits, cover-ups, or pajamas.

How many outfits came home unworn?  More than I'd like to admit.

It made me laugh, but it also made me think.  Sometimes we carry more than we need, not just in our luggage, but in our lives.  Wellness often starts with simplifying and making room for what truly matters.

3. Bring Your Own Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot

If I could give one travel tip, it would be this: bring your own portable Wi-Fi hotspot.

Having reliable internet made everything easier when we needed it, while still allowing us to disconnect and enjoy time together.  Less stress means more presence, and that's what vacations should be about.

My Travel Wellness MVPs

Sustain

One thing I never travel without is Sustain.

Between flights, heat, swimming, and long days in the sun, staying hydrated makes all the difference.  I used Sustain on the plane ride and again after therapy, and I felt great throughout the trip.

What I love is that it helps replenish electrolytes, not just fluids. It's become my go-to travel companion because feeling your best means you can fully enjoy the moments that matter most.

T36-C5

Another item that earned a permanent spot in my travel bag was T36-C5.

My daughter got a bug bite that quickly became swollen and irritated, so we reached for T36-C5.  Over the next few days, we noticed the irritation calming down and the area looking much better.

I ended up using it too.  After a little too much Mexican sunshine, my face was definitely feeling the effects.  I started applying T36-C5, and before long the redness had faded.  Now, instead of looking sunburned, my skin looks refreshed and glowing.

It's one of those products I always pack "just in case," and somehow it always ends up being one of the most-used items in my bag.

Baby Wipes

And then there's the true vacation hero: baby wipes.

Beach days, airport travel, sandy hands, snack messes, sunscreen cleanups... I honestly lost count of how many times we reached for them.

They aren't fancy, but they are among the hardest-working items in our suitcase on every single trip.

The Biggest Takeaway

As I reflected on another birthday, I kept coming back to a simple truth:

"To enhance the lives of those we touch by helping people reach their goals."

Sometimes those goals are big.  Sometimes they're much simpler.

Staying hydrated on a travel day.  Being prepared for life's little surprises.  Creating memories with the people you love.  Being present enough to enjoy them.

Mexico gave us beautiful beaches and family memories, but it also reminded me that kindness opens doors, simplicity brings freedom, and taking care of ourselves allows us to show up fully for the moments that matter most.

As I head home, my goal is to bring this same energy, peace, and relaxation into everyday life.  Vacation doesn't change our lives.  What changes our lives is what we do when we get back.

Trust that God and the Universe will provide.

Stay consistent.

Do the daily disciplines.

Do the things that may not seem exciting.

Because the truth is, the boring stuff is what creates the fun stuff.

The workouts.

The healthy choices.

The quiet mornings.

The personal growth.

The consistent effort.

Those small actions, repeated over time, create the freedom to enjoy the adventures, celebrate the milestones, and make memories with the people we love.

Here's to another year of growth, gratitude, adventure, and helping others reach their goals along the way. 💙

P.S. Kindness got me a photo with the Chef.  Sustain helped keep me going.  T36-C5 saved the day more than once.  And despite all my lessons learned... I'll probably still overpack next time. 😊
